PROPECIA is medicament used in the treatment of male type of baldness (also known as androgenic alopecia). These pills are for men only and should not be taken by women or by children. PROPECIA contains an active ingredient called finasteride. Male pattern baldness is often a condition that is thought to be due to a combination of heredity and the action of hormones called dihydrotestosterone (DHT).DHT shortens the growth phase of the hair and contributes to thinning hair. Usefulness of PROPECIA tablets are expected only in men with mild to moderate hair loss, but not in those with complete loss of hair.
Precautions
In clinical trials it was shown that PROPECIA is not effective in treating hair loss in women. PROPECIA tablets should not be taken by children. Tell your doctor of all the health problems you have or have had, including allergies. PROPECIA can usually be taken with other medications. Always tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines. PROPECIA may be taken with or without food. PROPECIA tablets contain lactose, a type of sugar. If your doctor ever said that you have intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
Propecia (Finasteride) Dosage
The usual dose is one tablet once a day. PROPECIA can only act if you are taking it for a long time. If you forget to take PROPECIA tablets, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at the usual schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up the missed dose. Sometimes it takes 3 to 6 months for the full effect of the drug, it sometimes takes patience. It is important that you take PROPECIA tablets as long as your doctor prescribed it. If you stop taking PROPECIA probably will lose the hair that came within 9 to 12 months.
